Man in corrupt deal with ex-Nigerian dictator loses appeal

A man convicted of laundering £28m from a business deal with an ex-Nigerian dictator has lost his final appeal.

 

Raj Bhojwani, from India, was jailed in 2010 and ordered to repay £26.5m after he funnelled money through Jersey and Swiss bank accounts.

 

The European Court of Human Rights rejected his complaint on Tuesday that he was denied a fair trial.

Martin Shkreli, the pharmaceutical boss dubbed “the world’s most hated man” after he increased the price of a HIV-related drug by 5,000%, was on Thursday told he will face trial for fraud.

 

As he walked out of court , Shkreli had something more pressing on his mind. He asked his lawyer: “Can I play Pokémon Go now?” according to a New York Daily News reporter who overheard the question.

North Florida-based Congresswoman Corinne Brown is the latest Clinton superdelegate to receive an indictment for corruption and ethics violations. Brown allegedly received $800,000 from an organization called One Door For Education under false pretenses that the funds would be used for charitable purposes. One Door For Education touts itself as a nonprofit, but is not legally registered as such.

MEPs are demanding former European Commission President José Manuel Barroso is sanctioned for taking a job with Goldman Sachs, saying he has failed to “behave with integrity and discretion.”

 

Barroso, who served two, five year terms as commission head, is criticised for joining the Wall Street bank that some claim helped set off the 2008 financial crisis.
